this ad campaign has been bugging me for a while now. it just seems like you could substitute some other words without changing the live-and-let-live sentiment and suddenly it wouldn’t sound so liberal and forward-thinking. 
like this: 
if you don’t like sexual assault, don’t rape someone. 
if you don’t like the glass ceiling, don’t be born without a Y chromosome. 
if you don’t like gun-related homicide, don’t buy a gun.
… I am in favor of marriage equality and I’m glad that it’s legal for same-sex couples to get married in my state now. but this is not the reason. this is not enough of a reason. “everyone should be allowed to do whatever they want” is different from “this is a civil rights issue” and is an absolute world away from protecting the rights of those who are routinely persecuted or discriminated against. 
(although as billboards go I guess it’s pretty far above average in terms of tolerability.)
